Who's the Middleman: Area Models (Grades 3-8) (AMSTI - TEAMS approved)

This one-day session focuses on developing area models from upper elementary
through middle school grades. Participants will experience the foundation of area
models and how they can be extended through middle school math concepts.
Participants will practice using area models with hands-on manipulatives and materials
through applications of multiplication, division, fractions, geometry, percents, and
probability.

This three-hour session focuses on helping teachers prepare students for the ACAP Math portion. Participants will review important ACAP test information, learn about ACAP Math test structure, investigate how to use the ACAP Test Item Specifications to write ACAP-like questions, and explore resources for utilizing ACAP-like questions for instruction and/or assessment. 2-8 ACAP Aligned Daily Instruction (AMSTI - TEAMS approved)

This three-hour session focuses on developing a plan for instruction using multiple
resources aligned to the 2019 ALCOS: Mathematics standards, ACT, and formative
assessments. Participants need to bring their teacher textbook guide or student
textbook. It might also be helpful if a participant brings district/school pacing guides to
help determine when and how ACAP resources can be used in daily instructional
practices.

This 3-hour session that focuses on understanding the new 2019 Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics and its conceptual framework: Position Statements, Mathematical Teaching Practices, Student Mathematical Practices and the 6-12 Content Areas. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in deeper learning as they analyze learning progressions and determine how to incorporate the mathematical practices throughout math instruction.
