Keynote - Designing for What’s Next: When the Answer is Easy, Thinking Matters More
Monday July 13, 2026 8:30am - 9:50am CDT
As artificial intelligence makes answers instant, the real challenge isn’t access to information…It’s how
we design for human thinking. This keynote explores how risk-taking, failure, mindfulness, and intentional design help
learners and leaders move beyond compliance toward true agency. Rather than focusing on how to use AI, the talk
reframes what humans do best: ask better questions, take risks, reflect deeply, and navigate uncertainty. The future
doesn’t need faster answers, it needs better thinkers.

Just Add Games
Monday July 13, 2026 11:00am - 11:50am CDT
The presentation explores the use of math games in secondary classrooms (6-12). Put those digital devices away because are talking actual games! We will be exploring how games can enhance student engagement and reinforce foundational skills that can be helpful in their current learning. Attendees will be able to participate in actual game play and debrief and collaborate on how they see these fitting into their current classroom environment.

Secondary students often lose the opportunity for play within the classroom and show a decreased motivation in mathematics. Math games provide an opportunity for active learning, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and giving all learners the chance at low-stakes practice.

Decoding the 2025 Alabama Accountability System: From Technical Guide to Report Card
Monday July 13, 2026 12:00pm - 12:50pm CDT
This session provides a practical, up-to-date deep dive into Alabama’s school accountability system, with a focus on the 2025 Alabama State Accountability Technical Guide and the Alabama Report Card. Designed for school and district leaders, instructional coaches, and data teams, this workshop moves beyond surface-level understanding to help participants confidently interpret accountability data and use it to drive strategic improvement.

Special attention will be given to how scores are calculated under the 2025 framework, what has changed from prior years, and how those changes impact school ratings.
Attendees will engage in guided exploration of Report Card categories, including:
• Key background and purpose of each indicator
• Step-by-step breakdown of calculation methods based on the 2025 Technical Guide
• Identification of strengths and gaps within their own data
Who should attend:
Principals, assistant principals, district administrators, instructional coaches, data specialists, and school leadership teams seeking to strengthen their understanding of Alabama’s 2025 accountability system.

7 Challenges that Showcase STEM in the Middle Grades (4-8)
Monday July 13, 2026 12:00pm - 1:50pm CDT
Discover seven classroom-tested STEM missions designed to shift students from passive observers to active problem-solvers with minimal setup and maximum curiosity. In this session focused on middle grades (4-8) learning, participants will explore and adapt 7 ready-to-implement STEM challenges that directly connect math/science concepts to Alabama's new 2025 Digital Literacy & Computer Science (DLCS) Standards. These intentionally designed student activities promote collaboration and build skills like computational thinking, iterative processing, and real-world application of learning. This session will include time for unpacking grade level standards to make meaningful connections, trying out STEM challenges that increase student engagement, and collaborating on how to customize a STEM experience that lets students apply their math, science and engineering skills.

Ink and Innovation: How do we transform a static story into an interactive experience?
Monday July 13, 2026 12:00pm - 1:50pm CDT
In Ink & Innovation, we explore the powerful synergy between literacy and hands-on engineering. Moving beyond the margins, this session demonstrates how writing can be elevated when students "build" their narratives using a toolkit of modern technology and classic tactile materials.

What to Expect: We will dive into practical strategies for integrating STEAM tools directly into the writing process:

Interactive Storytelling: Creating "touch-sensitive" storyboards with Makey Makeys that trigger sound effects or digital responses.

Structural Storytelling: Utilizing Strawbees and LEGOs to prototype settings, map out complex plot structures, or build physical metaphors for abstract themes.

Plot Mapping: Using Ozobots we will map out the plot of a story.

The Visual Layer: Blending traditional Art and mixed media to add depth and aesthetic intent to every draft.

AMSTI 3-5 Counting Collections and Choral Counting
Monday July 13, 2026 12:00pm - 3:00pm CDT
In this ½ day session participants will discuss the importance of counting and how fundamental it is to learning mathematics in elementary school. It is the basis upon which operations with whole numbers, estimation, and algebraic thinking build. Through the powerful instructional routines of Choral Counting and Counting Collections,
students are engaged in rich mathematics, which can be utilized to pursue a broad range of mathematical goals throughout the upper grades in elementary school. By increasing the magnitude of the counting collection or by including packaged items, students can explore several mathematical concepts and develop a deep, conceptual understanding of quantity. The math routines in this professional learning are tailored for grades 3-5.

One Tool, Less Work
Monday July 13, 2026 2:00pm - 2:50pm CDT
Teachers are asked to communicate more than ever — but often with too many tools and not enough time.

This session focuses on how to simplify communication with students, families, and coworkers using one consistent approach. We’ll cover when to post, when to message, how to avoid duplication, and how to make sure families actually receive and respond.

The goal is simple: save time, reduce frustration, and make communication feel manageable — while improving connection with the families who need it most.
